Tony Love dominates O'Reilly SummerNationals in fine fashion
May 27, 2002

It was a Memorial Day Holiday to remember for GoFDR player Tony Love as he dominated the O'Reilly SummerNationals in Topeka, Kansas this weekend. Love not only scored his second win of the season, but also tallied up three of the top-7 spots and five of the top-14. Now that's covering the field!

Tony was our second repeat winner of the 2002 season, joining Allen Smith with two GoFDR trophies to his credit. Much like the first time Love won back at Houston, he did so in convincing fashion, beating runner-up John Walker by the equivalent of two full rounds (40 points). Tony chalked up a whopping 711 total points to Walker's 673 points. The third place went to Eric Gowdy with 664 points tallied while Ken Dahl and Bob Campbell rounded out our top-five finishers.

Love's dominance of the O'Reilly SummerNationals comes courtesy of some rather unique strategy, something that many of our current players are not taking advantage of -- multiple team purchases. While there are some players who buy two or three teams each race, Tony takes that a step further, buying seven to ten teams for each event.

This allows him to apply many different selection strategies and still have a very good chance of coming out ahead while our player count at GoFDR is still low. In fact, this week Tony's teams paid off to the tune of $370.00!

It was Tony's winning team that really hit the home run though. That 711 points he managed to score came from a team that was nothing less than a work of art! Only one of his eight drivers didn't make it to the Semi-finals. He picked the Winner and Runner Ups in both Top Fuel and Funny Car. In the highly competitive Pro Stock class, where it is becoming nearly impossible to pick the winner, Tony did the next best thing. He chose Jim Yates and Jeg Coughlin and snagged a couple of Semifinal finishes to help pad his score.

With the Pro Stocks being so unpredictable, some players have opted to select all 8 drivers from Top Fuel and Funny Car and avoid Pro Stock altogether. While that's not necessarily a bad strategy under the circumstances, Tony proved that a good score in Pro Stock as well can push you into the winner's circle.

GoFDR would like to congratulate Tony Love on his second win with us. He is one of our most dedicated and voracious players, and his hard work has paid off twice now.

For those of you who are still considering playing multiple teams, this Summer is the time to do it! Once our player count grows into the hundreds, the appeal of this strategy may be lost as the odds of winning decrease.

GoFantasyDragRacing will be taking the upcoming Chicagoland event off. It will be a short hiatus however, as we fully expect to be back for the Pontiac Excitement Nationals at Columbus, Ohio on June 13-16. New driver values will be assigned for this race, so keep a watch out for small adjustments in driver costs.

We would like to encourage everyone to regroup, plan your next strategy, and come play with us then!
