Boulder's Sam LaCroix finds success at home track in Mile High Nationals
July 22, 2002

Pro Stock Biker Matt Hines wasn't the only racer to win at what he considers his "home track". GoFDR player Sam LaCroix is from nearby Boulder and he also found victory lane at the Mile High Nationals in Denver, Colorado.

Sam's winning score of 686 points was just enough to eek out the win over runner-up racer Tony Love. Love is a two-time winner in GoFantasyDragRacing this season, which equates to some stiff competition. In fact, Tony made the most of using multiple strategies and placing four of his eight teams in the top-25 money round. This after being shut out completely in the last race!

Still, LaCroix was able to outscore the hard-charging Love by a narrow two points and score his own second win of the season. He now joins Love and Allen Smith as our only two-time victors in 2002. Third place honors at Denver went to Dave Ballinger with 668 points tallied, while Jim Pugh and Jay Cason rounded out the top five.

It was another haphazard weekend of racing at Denver, with the only predictable outcome presenting itself out of the Pro Stock Bike category. With several of the top qualifiers in Top Fuel, Funny Car, and Pro Stock falling out in the early rounds, it was a difficult race to predict by the numbers. Amazingly, one of our players was still able to nail down three of the four winners, and that was none other than LaCroix himself.

It appears some of our players have a knack for picking racers from farther down the qualifying list who go on to win. The most logical and straight forward picks should come from the top four qualifiers, but that doesn't always work. Our winner this week did a great job of proving that as three of his drivers came from outside the top four qualifying positions.

The NHRA circuit makes its second swing of the season to the West Coast for the next couple of races. GoFDR will not be running the Seattle and Sonoma events as we concentrate on a new promotion to attract new players to our game. Being based out of California, it is imperative that we promote in our own neck of the woods first, for financial reasons.

And with less than 40 players each week, we are currently paying out twice as much as we take in. We hope you can understand our need to attract new racers that may not be aware of our game. Again, we extend our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

We will be back for the Brainerd event on August 15-18, and hope to see you all come back and play then. Maybe we can drum up some new players to join in the fun and give you all a little more competition!
