Dave Ballinger sets GoFDR winnings record at Indy
September 3rd, 2002

It was another exciting weekend of racing at Indianapolis for the U.S. Nationals, but no one was more excited than GoFDR player Dave Ballinger of San Diego, California. Dave slammed the competition taking the top two spots in this week's top-ten finishers.

Dave collected a massive $500 check from GoFantasyDragRacing with his two teams, one chosen with the Pre-Qualifying Bonus and the other with a post-qualifying team that was almost as effective as his pre-race picks.

Mr. Ballinger has been slowly sneaking up on a big payday like he had on Monday. He finished in the 3rd position back at the Mile High Nationals in Denver, and was runner-up at our last race in Brainerd two weeks ago. His collection of $500 this weekend was the single largest payday here at GoFDR! Congratulations Dave!

The previous highest payout in one race had been Joe Wingate's run at the Fram Autolite Nationals in Sonoma back in 2001. Joe won $425 that weekend.

The double-whammy winning wasn't limited just to Ballinger however. Vista, California's Jay Cason also managed to secure both the fourth and fifth positions at Indy while Bill Ralls of Grand Prairie, Texas was the meat in the sandwich, coming home third.

Some interesting strategy played out among GoFDR players once again this weekend. Three of the lower valued racers got to the semis or better in Funny Car: Cruz Pedregon($380,000), Dean Skuza($700,000), and Tommy Johnson, Jr.($660,000). Many of our players scored well by choosing one or two of these bargains.

Meanwhile, Tony Schumacher won Top Fuel taking the hard road to the win. He faced Darrell Russell (who won 2 of 3 races on the Western Swing) in the first round. He beat #1 qualifier Cory McClenathan in round two, then faced #4 qualifier Andrew Cowin in the Semi-finals. That put him in the final showdown where he beat Larry Dixon, who had performed flawlessly all weekend.

Jeg Coughlin won in the ultra-competitive Pro Stock class. He once again won from the bottom half of the field (Qualified #9), taking the last two rounds on holeshots. In Pro Stock bike Angelle Savoie finally returned to winning form, justifying her high $$$ value of $1,860,000 here at GoFDR.

Players who chose various combinations of these drivers tended to score very well at Indy.

Please note that we will not be running the upcoming race in conjunction with the upcoming Lucas Oil Nationals in Reading, PA on September 12-15. The next GoFDR race will be the O'Reilly MidSouth Nationals in Memphis, TN on September 19-22. Be sure to re-join us then!
