Rookie Sam Eldred takes top honors at O'Reilly MidSouth Nationals
September 23rd, 2002
In what was a fairly predictable weekend of racing at the O'Reilly MidSouth Nationals in Memphis, a rookie here at GoFantasyDragRacing took the top honors. Enter Sam Eldred of Coeur d'Alene, ID!
Sam tallied up a grand total of 690 points, doing it the hard way -- without the standard 50-point Pre-Qualifying Bonus. Although his score was well below our all-time high score, it was very respectable considering Pro Stock Bikes were not running this event, therefore providing less scoring opportunities.
Sam used the strategy of choosing the entire John Force team of John himself, Tony Pedregon and Gary Densham. Mr. Eldred gained a win and two semi-final finishes courtesy of Force and his high-powered race team. Add in his selections of Larry Dixon and Jeg Coughlin (who both won their respective classes) and Sam was virtually unbeatable! Our congratulations go out to Sam on such a fine showing -- particularly for a rookie!
John Grissom, a veteran from Amarillo,TX, was our runner-up this week after dancing around in the bottom half of the top-10 for our last two races. Jeff Wangen, a rookie who started racing with us in May, continues to move up in the top money winners each week, placing 3rd this weekend at Memphis. Denise Crenshaw and John Thomas rounded out our top-five.
With the race itself providing minimal upsets, it was easy for players to choose a handful of solid semi-final finishers on almost every team. In fact, this week it took a whopping score of 588 or better just to crack the top-25! Those who didn't score in the top-25 shouldn't be discouraged as this is the highest LOW score of the season. Normally our 25th place team owner scores somewhere between 500 and 550 points.
Despite an exciting race at Memphis, GoFDR will be sitting out the Craftsman Nationals in Chicago on September 27-29th as planned. We will return to action at the O'Reilly Fall Nationals on October 10-13th. Please be sure to join us then!
