Shirley "Muldowney" Dionne breaks into GoFDR winner's circle
September 25th, 2001
Who says chicks can't race? While veteran duo Gary Densham and George Marnell were both securing their first ever NHRA victories this weekend at Memphis Motorsports Park, Shirley "Muldowney" Dionne of Brunswick, Maine broke a similar story of her own; she was the first female to break into the GoFDR victory circle!
Shirley's sound picks for Memphis earned her 668 points and the first place prize money, after coming home in the runner-up position two weeks ago at Indy. Three of Shirley's eight drivers won their divisions, and a fourth driver was a runner-up. She also played a second team which ended up in the eighth spot. That means Shirley will receive a check for $325 from GoFantasyDragRacing. Congratulations Shirley!
The racing was definitely tight this week, with only three points separating the top-three GoFDR competitors. John Walker of Pittsburgh finished in the second position, while the new GoFDR name of Ken Trichak followed him in third. John Ward and Gary Talbott rounded out the top-five players for this week.
On another interesting note, three of the top-five teams were chosen prior to the first round of qualifying, meaning they earned the 40 point bonus for having their crystal ball all polished off before the NHRA haulers were even positioned in the pits.
The next race up is the Route 66 NHRA Nationals in Chicago, Illinois (Sept 27-30). We welcome everyone to come join in the fun once again for that race. And please, don't forget to tell your friends how much fun you are having here at GoFantasyDragRacing.com!
