Eric Gowdy takes final honors of 2001 GoFDR season
November 13th, 2001
The 2001 NHRA season has concluded with names like Bernstein, Force, Savoie, Johnson and Panella atop the list of their particular classes. The season finale in NHRA also signifies the end of racing here at GoFantasyDragRacing.com for the 2001 season; a race where Eric Gowdy pulled off his first GoFDR victory.
Gowdy, of Portland, Oregon, scored 698 points en route to the victory in the final race of the season at Pomona. Helping him to winner's circle were event winners Kenny Bernstein, Angelle Savoie, and Mike Coughlin--all scoring 100 points in his favor. Picking runner-up Shawn Gann in Pro Stock Bikes and scoring the pre-qualifying bonus didn't hurt his cause any either.
The racing among GoFDR team owners was tight once again this week. It was so tight that GoFDR regulars Jay Cason and Ken Trichak actually picked identical teams to score a TIE for the runner-up position with 694 points. This being the first time (and possibly the last time) players pick the exact same eight drivers, the Competition Director has ruled that Cason and Trichak will split the $300 prize money awarded for those two positions. Normally, second place wins $200 and third place wins $100--the two will both be awarded $150 apiece. Still a good pay day for both players!
Rounding out the top five in the final race of 2001 were Shirley Dionne and John Ward, scoring 687 and 683 points respectively.
Most players took advantage of having all five classes to choose from. Many had three eventual event winners included on their teams. With competition like that, we look forward to 2002 here at GoFantasyDragRacing.com. We like the racing tight!
Finally, we would like to extend a heartfelt Thank You to all those who played here at GoFDR this season. We are living out a dream by being able to bring this game to you, and we hope that you will return next season to join in the fun once again.
